January 12, 2015 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State sophomore wrestler Nolan Boyd was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his performance in the Cowboys' dual against top-ranked Iowa on Sunday, the league announced today.
This is Boyd's second Big 12 weekly honor of the season as well as his career.
The 184 pounder knocked off his second top-10 opponent of the season and improved to 3-2 against ranked opponents when he defeated No. 7 Sammy Brooks of Iowa. Falling to a 5-1 deficit in the first half of the match, Boyd was awarded a takedown and three nearfall points to end the second period. He finished the match off with an escape to start the third period and a late takedown to seal the win.
“I'm not satisfied with my performance, but I'm glad with how the match turned out,” Boyd said. “This is a good confidence booster going into the rest of the season. I just have to keep working hard.”
Boyd is now 17-3 on the season with a 3-1 dual record. He has recorded two falls, two technical falls and major decision so far in his 2014-15 campaign.
