No. 10/10 Texas at RV/RV Oklahoma State
Jan. 10, 2015 | Gallagher-Iba Arena | Stillwater, Okla.
Final Score: Oklahoma State 69, Texas 58
► Texas entered the game ranked fourth nationally in field goal percentage defense by limiting its previous 15 opponents to .342 pct. shooting from the field. Oklahoma State far out-performed Texas's previous opponents by converting on 26-55 attempts (.473 pct.) The Cowboys shot .538 pct. from the field in the second half. Entering Saturday's game, no team had shot better than .433 pct. in a game vs. the Longhorns this year (Stanford).
► The two teams were tied at 28-28 at halftime. Both squads were able to get the other out of sync in the first half, with OSU holding Texas to 9-of-31 shooting from the field (.290 pct.) and the Longhorns limiting the Cowboys to 12-of-29 shooting from the field (.414 pct.) before intermission. Oklahoma State's pressure defense harassed Texas and the Longhorns' size made things difficult for OSU.
► The Cowboys shot well and played solid defense to start the game, but couldn't pull away from the Longhorns, thanks in part to the fact that on the 31 shots missed by Texas in the first half, the Longhorns grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and the Cowboys had 11 defensive rebounds. Consequently, 11 of Texas's 28 first-half points came on second-chance opportunities.
► The dynamic completely changed in the second half, as the Cowboys outrebounded the Longhorns, 21-13. The two teams finished the game with 37 rebounds apiece, which is remarkable given that Texas entered the game ranked second nationally with a +13.1 average rebounding margin.
► Le'Bryan Nash scored 20 points, marking the 26th time in his career that he has scored at least 20 points in a game. He is the Big 12's active leader in that category.
► With 20 points, Le'Bryan Nash upped his career total to 1,554 and in doing so, passed Randy Rutherford (1992-95) and Matt Clark (1978-83) to move to ninth on the OSU career list. The next man ahead of him is Keiton Page, who scored 1,651 points from 2008-12.
► Anthony Hickey sparked a key run in the second half that helped the Cowboys open up the space they needed. He finished with 10 points, a career-high nine rebounds, and a season-high seven assists. Saturday marked his fourth game with five or more assists this season. The previous three were seven vs. Southeastern Louisiana, five vs. North Texas and six at Memphis.
The Oklahoma State win...
► Marked the 16th time that OSU has beaten an opponent ranked in the top 25 of the Associated Press poll since Travis Ford took over as head coach in 2008-09.
► Marked the ninth time that the Cowboys have beaten an opponent ranked in the top 10 of the Associated Press poll under Travis Ford, with the most recent a 72-65 win over No. 2 Kansas in Stillwater last season.
► Marked the Cowboys' fourth straight home win over Texas and their sixth in the last seven overall meetings with the Longhorns.
► Improved Oklahoma State to 21-13 against Texas in games played in Stillwater.
