Garman Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week
September 29, 2014 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterback Daxx Garman is this week's Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today.
Garman threw for 370 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for a fifth touchdown in leading Oklahoma State to a 45-35 win over Texas Tech Thursday night. Garman did his damage with the long ball, as nearly all of his completions came in the vertical passing game. He completed four passes of 40 yards or more and six passes of 30 yards or more. He also completed at least one pass of 20 yards or longer to six different receivers.
Garman's five touchdowns were the most for a Cowboy signal-caller in a Big 12 game since Brandon Weeden threw five touchdown passes against Texas Tech in 2011. His 21.8 yards per completion against the Red Raiders stands as the 10th-best mark in school history and the best since Zac Robinson averaged 21.9 yards per completion against Iowa State in 2008.
It is the first career Big 12 Player of the Week honor for the junior out of Southlake, Texas, and it is the second conference player of the week honor for a Cowboy this year as Emmanuel Ogbah earned the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award for his performance in the season-opener.
The Cowboys had nine different players combine for 12 Big 12 Player of the Week honors in the 2013 season, setting a league record for most players from a single team to earn Big 12 weekly honors during the course of a season and matching the 2000 Oklahoma team's conference record for most total honorees from one team in a season.
Texas linebacker Jordan Hicks and Kansas State punt returner Tyler Lockett joined Garman as weekly conference honorees with the defensive and special teams Player of the Week awards, respectively.
