STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State won its fourth-straight game Sunday night in come-from-behind fashion as the Cowgirls knocked off Tulsa, 2-1, at the OSU Invitational Presented by Stillwater Holiday Inn & Suites.
OSU scored twice in the final 24 minutes to collect the win as head coach Colin Carmichael's squad improved to 4-6-0 on the season.
Anna Beffer was the hero as her first-career goal proved to be the game winner in the 82nd minute. The freshman, who just returned to action on Friday night after missing the previous six games with an injury, blasted a left-footed shot top shelf to the far post from just outside the 18-yard box to give OSU its first lead at the 81:25 mark.
"I've been out for a while, and in the first half I wasn't really contributing. I wanted to come out and do my best to contribute to a win and keep our four-game streak going," Beffer said. "I'm just happy I was able to contribute."
Tulsa (6-3-1) played the final 24:15 down a player after Lana Bermel was sent off with a red card in the 66th minute, and the Cowgirls took advantage.
The Golden Hurricane had led since the 34th minute when off a corner kick, Darienne Chapman headed a Roman Edwards corner kick into the box, where Christina Holmes deposited it into the net to give TU a 1-0 advantage.
Just over 30 minutes later, however, on a free kick set up by the red card, OSU tied the score. Allie Stephenson set up from just outside the top of the 18-yard box and delivered a shot top shelf to the far post to tie the score at 1-1. The goal was Stephenson's team-leading fourth of the season.
The score remained knotted until Beffer's game winner, which came off an assist from Madison Mercado.
Clinging to the 2-1 lead over the final nine minutes of the match, the Cowgirls barely avoided a late equalizer when Alexa Sidorakis smacked a shot from 30-yards out that deflected off the far post at the 88:14 mark.
"It was a crazy game -- when you play the in-state games, it tends to be that way, usually a lot of crazy stuff happens and it's pretty physical," Carmichael said. "Credit to Tulsa -- they played very hard and were much better than we were in the first half. In the second half, we came back into it, and clearly the red card changes the game a little bit.
"From our perspective, we showed a lot of determination, we stuck with it and we found a way to win."
The Cowgirls will carry their winning streak into Big 12 Conference play, which begins Friday night when OSU hosts Iowa State. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
