NEW YORK - Former Oklahoma State standouts Rickie Fowler and Hunter Mahan will represent the United States later this month at the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in Scotland.
Fowler earned one of nine automatic berths on the squad after finishing second among American players with 6,733 points. He will be making his second appearance at the event and his first since 2010. At Celtic Manor, he posted a 0-1-2 record.
The Murrieta, Calif., native has played in 24 events this season and made history by becoming just the third player to finish in the top five at all four majors in a calendar year. After tying for fifth at The Masters, Fowler tied for second at the U.S. Open and The Open Championship before tying for third place at the PGA Championship. He also finished third at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship.
Fowler is currently 10th in the FedEx Cup point standings and checks in at No. 11 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Mahan was one of three captain's picks by Tom Watson and will be making his third Ryder Cup appearance. He appeared at the event in 2008 and 2010 with a combined record of 3-2-3.
Fresh off his first victory of the season at The Barclays two weeks ago, Mahan has finished in the top 10 in two of his last three starts. In addition to his victory, he also tied for seventh place at the PGA Championship. Earlier this season, Mahan had four top 10s in five events, including a pair of World Golf Championships. He tied for ninth in back-to-back starts at the Accenture Match Play Championship and the Cadillac Championship.
Mahan currently ranks third in the FedEx Cup standings and is 20th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
