The Basics
The Oklahoma State football team (2-1 overall) hosts Texas Tech (2-1 overall) Thursday in Boone Pickens Stadium in the Big 12 opener for both squads.
On the Air
The game will be televised by ESPN with Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer, David Pollack and Samantha Ponder calling the action. The contest will also be carried live on the Cowboy Radio Network, with Dave Hunziker handling play-by-play, John Holcomb providing analysis and Robert Allen reporting from the sideline. The Compass Media Networks crew of Drew Bontadelli and Tony Hill will broadcast to a national audience.

Oklahoma State is No. 25 in the Associated Press poll and receiving votes in the Amway Coaches Poll. Texas Tech is unranked.
Thursday Night Lights
When the Cowboys and Red Raiders clash this week, it marks the fifth time that Oklahoma State has played on Thursday night. OSU is 4-1 in those contests and has won four straight after dropping its Thursday night debut to eventual national champion Nebraska in 1995.
A pair of the most memorable games of the Mike Gundy era were played on Thursday nights in Boone Pickens Stadium, with Brandon Weeden making a name for himself by coming off the bench at halftime to lift the Cowboys to victory over Colorado in 2009 and Dan Bailey kicking a game-winning field goal with no time on the clock to sink Texas A&M in 2010.

Connections
• Perhaps the most notable connection between Oklahoma State and Texas Tech is one that won't be seen on Saturday - Dana Holgorsen. Holgorsen spent eight seasons (2000-07) as Mike Leach's right-hand man in Lubbock before moving on to Houston for a couple seasons and then on to Oklahoma State in 2010, where he was a central figure in installing Oklahoma State's current offensive system.
• Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy and Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury are two of 12 head coaches - and the only two in the Big 12 - working at their alma mater. Gundy quarterbacked Oklahoma State from 1986-89 and Kingsbury quarterbacked Texas Tech from 1999-2002.
• Oklahoma State running backs coach Jemal Singleton and Texas Tech defensive coordinator Matt Wallerstedt were on the same coaching staff at Air Force from 2008-10.
• Oklahoma State receivers coach Kasey Dunn and Texas Tech offensive line coach Lee Hays were on the same coaching staff at Baylor in 2007.
• Oklahoma State linebacker Ryan Simmons and safety Jordan Sterns played for Texas Tech running backs coach Mike Jinks at Cibolo Steele HS outside of San Antonio, where Jinks served as head coach from 2005-12. Simmons was a central figure in Steele winning the 2010 Class 5A Division II Texas state championship.
• Oklahoma State receiver Jhajuan Seales and Texas Tech running back Jalen Barnes both hail from Memorial HS in Port Arthur, Texas.
• Texas Tech safety Derrick Dixon played alongside Oklahoma State receiver Ra'Shaad Samples at Skyline HS in Dallas, where both were coached by Samples' father, Reginald.
• Oklahoma State receiver Austin Hays attended Ronald Reagan HS in San Antonio, the same school that produced Texas Tech receiver Kash Knutson and deep snapper Kyle Heffron.
• Oklahoma State defensive tackle James Castleman hails from Amarillo, Texas, which is about an hour and 45 minutes north of Lubbock.
• Texas Tech receiver Cameron Batson hails from Oklahoma City.
Last Year's Meeting - No. 18 Oklahoma State 52, No. 15 Texas Tech 34
Oklahoma State raced out to a 21-0 lead to start its game at No. 15 Texas Tech and never surrendered its advantage in claiming a 52-34 win over the Red Raiders in front of a record crowd at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.
The Cowboys rushed for 281 yards and five touchdowns, forced three Texas Tech turnovers, blocked a punt and returned a punt to the Red Raider 11-yard line to position themselves for success. However, perhaps the biggest deciding factor was red zone execution, as the Cowboys were six of six in the red zone with six touchdowns, while TTU was able to muster only two touchdowns and two field goals in its seven red zone trips.
Quarterback Clint Chelf was very effective in completing 18-of-34 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns, but his contributions on the ground were particularly valuable, as he carried six times for 88 yards with two more touchdowns, highlighted by 67-yard scoring run that was a crushing blow to Texas Tech midway through the third quarter.
The win was Oklahoma State's fifth straight over Texas Tech and made the Cowboys the first team to beat the Red Raiders three straight times in Lubbock since Nebraska did it in 1994, 1996 and 2000.
Notable Streaks Entering the Texas Tech Game
• Oklahoma State has won five straight over Texas Tech and hasn't lost to the Red Raiders in Stillwater since 2001.
• Oklahoma State has won seven straight games over teams from Texas. Included in that is a 52-34 victory over then-No. 15 Texas Tech in Lubbock last season.
• Oklahoma State has won 24 straight home games over unranked opponents, dating back to 2009.
• Oklahoma State has scored 20 or more points in 55 consecutive games dating back to the start of the 2010 season. That streak is the longest active streak in the country and the second-longest since Division I split into the FBS/FCS in 1978, trailing only USC's 63 straight games of 20 or more points from Sept. 2, 2002 through Nov. 25, 2006.
• OSU has at least one touchdown drive of faster than two minutes in each of its last 38 games and in 54 of its last 55 contests.
• Dating back to 2005, the Cowboys have won 21 consecutive games when not committing a turnover.
• OSU has either won or tied the turnover battle in 23 of its last 27 games.
• Dating back to the 2008 season, the Cowboys have won 35 of their last 36 games when winning the turnover battle.
Oklahoma State vs. Unranked Opponents
Since the start of the 2010 season, Oklahoma State is 32-4 against teams not ranked in the Associated Press Top 25. The Cowboys have won 23 straight home games over unranked opponents. The last unranked team to beat OSU in Boone Pickens Stadium was Houston in 2009.
Starting with the Cowboys' 2012 Heart of Dallas Bowl win over Purdue, OSU has won 10 of its last 11 overall against unranked opponents.
Oklahoma State vs. Teams From Texas
Oklahoma State is 21-3 in its last 24 games against teams from the state of Texas, dating back to 2009. The Cowboys were a perfect 6-0 against teams from the Lone Star State in 2013, highlighted by convincing road wins at No. 15 Texas Tech (52-34) and at No. 23 Texas (38-13) and a 49-17 pounding of No. 3 Baylor in Stillwater.
