Cowboys Fifth At Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play on Friday at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational with a 295 tally to stand alone in fifth place at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The Cowboys' 15-over score put them just a shot out of the No. 3 spot held by Illinois and Stanford and two strokes behind Florida State for second place. Virginia Tech finished the day at 11-over 291 and in first place at the par-70, 7,290-yard layout.
Virginia Tech's Trevor Cone grabbed the individual lead after posting a 2-under 68.
OSU's Wyndham Clark was the only other player in the field to break par on the day. The sophomore carded a 1-under 69. Clark opened with a birdie at the par-5 first before posting three consecutive bogeys. After closing his outward nine with five pars in a row to turn at 2-over 37, Clark carded a bogey-free back nine. He moved back to level par with birdies at the 11th and 12th and returned to red figures with another birdie at the 14th.
Sophomore Zachary Olsen posted a 74 to finish the day tied for 23rd place, while freshman Sam Stevens was a stroke back with a 75 to come in tied for 27th place.
Redshirt freshman Stratton Nolen posted a 77 to stand in a tie for 38th place.
Redshirt freshman Brendon Jelley carded a 79 to finish tied for 60th place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow at 9 a.m. and will be grouped with Stanford and Baylor.
