STILLWATER, Okla. – Former Oklahoma State running back Barry Sanders is one of 16 selections for ESPN.com's “The Season,” a fan vote to determine the player who had the greatest season in college football history.
The poll is set up in a seeded, bracket format with players going head-to-head to determine a winner. Sanders, who won the 1988 Heisman Trophy, received the No. 1 overall seed and faces former Tulsa receiver Howard Twilley in the first round.
In 1988 Sanders had what is already widely considered the greatest season ever with 373 carries for 2,850 yards (7.6 yards per carry) and 42 touchdowns. Over the course of the year he scored 264 points, averaged 237.5 rushing yards per game and tallied four 300-yard rushing games.
