PARAMUS, N.J. - Former Oklahoma State standout Hunter Mahan notched his sixth career PGA Tour victory on Sunday, claiming a two-shot win at The Barclays at Ridgewood Country Club.
Mahan closed with a 6-under 65 to finish at 14-under 270 and two shots clear of the field. The 2003 national player of the year during his junior season at OSU, Mahan opened with a 66 before carding rounds of 71 and 68 heading into Sunday's final round.
Paired with fellow Cowboy All-American Morgan Hoffmann, Mahan birdied the par-4 first to start his final round. He added another birdie at the fifth to turn at 2-under 33. After a par at the 10th, Mahan birdied five of the next seven, including three in a row at Nos. 15, 16 and 17, before making his lone bogey of the day at the 18th.
With his triumph, Mahan pocketed $1.44 million and moved to No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings.
The victory was his first since his two-win campaign in 2012 that saw him claim titles at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship and the Shell Houston Open.
Mahan highlighted a strong weekend showing by former Cowboys. Rickie Fowler and Hoffmann tied for ninth place at 9-under 275, while Bo Van Pelt finished at 8-under 276 and tied for 13th and Charles Howell III tied for 22nd place at 5-under 279.
