JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - Oklahoma State's Zachary Olsen saw his run at the U.S. Amateur Championship come to an end on Friday in the quarterfinal round with his quarterfinal match to Corey Conners by a 2-and-1 count at Atlanta Athletic Club.
Conners struck first in the match, winning the third hole. His lead marked the first time Olsen trailed at the event since the fifth hole of his first-round match, ending a 32-hole string where the rising sophomore was all square or held the lead.
The two players halved the next five holes before Olsen drew even with a birdie at the ninth. However, Conners answered by taking the 10th and 11th for a 2-up lead. Olsen cut his deficit in half with a win at the 13th before Conners regained his lead with an eagle at the par-5 16th.
The match was closed out with pars at the 17th.
