Perry Wins Silver in Hungary

PECS, Hungary – Former Oklahoma State wrestling star Chris Perry earned a runner-up finish in the University World Championships finals Wednesday, dominating earlier rounds before falling to Piotr Ianulov of Moldova in a close-fought bout to take home a silver medal.
Wrestling at 86 kg/189 pounds, Perry drove through the bracket, collecting three easy wins to earn a spot in the finals.
He started the day with an 8-0 win over Andrei Frant of Romania. He followed the big opener with a 4-2 win over Turkey's Namik Korkmaz and a pin over Sandor Tozer of Hungary.
Perry faced Ianulov in the gold medal match but fell in a tough bout, 5-3.
To earn the chance to compete in Hungary, Perry won University Nationals in late May, defeating Enock Francois in the finals.
A native of Stillwater, Okla., Perry recently finished his collegiate career with four Big 12 titles and two NCAA individual titles.
