FARGO, N.D. – Former Oklahoma State wrestler Coleman Scott earned a runner-up finish at the 2014 Phase II U.S. Freestyle World Team Trials on Thursday, falling to 2014 U.S. Open champion Jimmy Kennedy in the 61 kg/134 lbs. final.
Scott advanced to the best-of-three final series with a first-place finish in the preliminary tournament after he defeated Reece Humphrey, 6-5, earlier in the day.
In the finals, Scott lost a closely contested first bout, 4-2, to Kennedy before his championship bid was ended with a 10-0 technical fall in the second bout.
Scott capped off his incredible career as a Cowboy in 2008 as the NCAA 133-pound champion after a dominant performance in the final match in which he pinned Joey Slaton of Iowa in 49 seconds. He was a four-time All-American, two-time Big 12 champ and claimed 117 overall victories.
