OWASSO, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Brendon Jelley captured the Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship on Wednesday with a 1-up victory over Preston Crawford at The Patriot Golf Club.
Jelley won the first with a birdie at the par-5 first before taking the third with a par. Crawford squared the match with back-to-back pars at Nos. 4 and 5. The OSU redshirt freshman made the turn with a 1-up advantage with a win at the ninth.
Crawford took the 13th to square the match before taking his lone lead of the day after winning the 14th. Jelley answered with consecutive birdies at the Nos. 15 and 16, both par-5s, to move back in front. The duo halved the final two holes to close out the match.
With his victory, Jelley became the first Cowboy to win the event since current OSU head coach Alan Bratton claimed the title at Dornick Hills Country Club in 2006.
