Cowboys Fourth After Stroke Play at NCAA Championship

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 4-over 284 during its third round at the NCAA Championship on Monday to finish fourth during the stroke play portion of the event at Prairie Dunes Country Club.
The Cowboys tallied a 54-hole total of 840 at the par-70, 6,941-yard layout. OSU's even-par total was four shots behind Alabama and LSU for the runner-up spot. Stanford finished atop the leaderboard, posting a 13-under total of 827 and coming in nine shots clear of the field.
With their finish, the Cowboys earned the No. 4 seed in the match play bracket and will take on fifth-seeded Georgia Tech tomorrow morning at 7:50 a.m. in the first round. The Yellow Jackets posted an 841 total.
The top-eight finish marks the first time since 2011 OSU has reached match play at the event and is the Cowboys' fourth appearance overall since the implementation of the current format in 2009. OSU lost in the first round in 2009, reached the championship match in 2010 and advanced to the semifinal round in 2011.
Stanford's Cameron Wilson and Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans tied for first place in the individual race with each posting 6-under 204 totals. Wilson defeated Schniederjans on the third playoff hole with a birdie to capture the NCAA title.
Ian Davisled the Cowboy starting five, firing a 2-under 68 to finish at 211 and tied for 35th place. The senior posted his lone bogey of the day at the fifth before answering with a birdie at the eighth to turn at even-par 35. Davis carded birdies at the 12th and 15th for an inward nine of 2-under 33.
Redshirt freshman Wyndham Clarkcame in a stroke off the pace of his teammate, posting a 74 to tie for 42nd place at 212.
Joining Clark at 212 was teammate Jordan Niebrugge. The sophomore countered a triple bogey at the fifth with three consecutive birdies to close his outward nine with an even-par total. After a double bogey at the 11th, Niebrugge answered with birdies at the 14th and 17th before moving under par with a birdie at the par-4 18th.
Senior Talor Gooch finished with a 77 to stand at 213 and tied for 49th place. Freshman Zachary Olsen's second consecutive 73 tied him for 69th place at 215.
