Six Cowboy Wrestlers Advance to Day Two of University Nationals

AKRON, Ohio – Six Oklahoma State wrestlers advanced to the second day of the ASICS University Nationals tournament on Saturday in Akron, Ohio. Among them were Anthony Collica, Tyler Caldwell, Kyle Crutchmer, Chris Perry, Austin Schafer and Austin Marsden.
All six will continue competition tomorrow at Louis and Freda Stile Athletic Field House at the University of Akron.
At 70 kilograms, Anthony Collica started the tournament with a 5-4 decision over CJ Cobb before rattling off three-straight wins by technical superiority to earn the chance to continue competing for a title on day two.
Four-time All-American and two-time NCAA finalist Tyler Caldwell is representing OSU at 74 kilos. Caldwell picked up two tech fall wins and rounded out his competition for the day with a 2-2 decision over Tyler Grayson.
Competing at 80 kg, Kyle Crutchmer surrendered only three points to his opponents while earning 46 points on the day en route to earning all four of his wins by tech fall.
Two-time national champion Chris Perry was similar in his dominance as he earned technical falls over all three of his opponents in his first competition since the NCAA Championships in March.
Schafer, who redshirted the 2013-14 season, earned his way to the 97-kilo quarterfinals with dominating wins in the first day.
All-American Marsden wrestled only two matches as he received a first-round bye. He picked up an 11-5 win over Henry Chirino before overpowering Tyler Deuel, 12-2.
Nolan Boyd is set to wrestle on the backside of the 86 kg bracket on Saturday.
Brian Crutchmer went 3-2 in the tourney at 61 kilos, while Davey Dolan went 2-2, competing at 65 kilograms.
