STILLWATER - "Five Questions" is a series that catches up with members of the Oklahoma State wrestling team during the off-season. This installment features Alex Dieringer. His comments:
On what he accomplished last season
“From the individual standpoint, I reached the pinnacle of college wrestling. That was a good feeling to know that all of my hard work paid off. As a team, we ended up taking third. It's not what we wanted, but we wrestled tough. There's always next year.”
On his favorite memory from the season
“I would have to say my favorite memory was when I got my hand raised on the big stage.”
On how he can improve for next year
“I just need to keep working on the things that I need to work on. Every single position - top, bottom and neutral. I need to find my tools and if I do that, I should keep improving.”
On what he's doing this summer
“I'm not going to be doing any competition this summer. I'm just going to be practicing. I was focusing a lot on school so I wasn't training as much for the World Team Trials, otherwise I would have gone. I'll probably be going to a couple of camps and working a lot of camps.”
On moving up to 165 pounds
“I would say that since David Taylor is gone, the weight class might become more wide open. Some guys might move into it just because he's gone. From what I know about the other wrestlers who are already there, I should be fine. I just have to get used to the weight jump. I'm a pretty strong wrestler so I think I'll be good.”
