MANHATTAN, Kan. -
Oklahoma State's Nick Miller threw the NCAA's top mark this season in the hammer throw at the KSU Wildcat Open, in Manhattan, Kan., on Saturday.
Miller broke his own school record twice in six throws. On his second throw of the day, he launched the hammer 74.15m/243-3, which was a new OSU record and the best throw in the nation by a meter and a half.
However, Miller wasn't done there.
On his fifth throw, he achieved a mark of 74.37m/244-0, extending his lead on both the NCAA and OSU all-time lists. Miller's previous best was a throw of 71.60m/234-11 at the 2013 NCAA West Preliminary Round.
"Nick looked great today," OSU throws coach John Baumann said. "He was in a good rhythm. It was good for him to reap some rewards from the hard work he has put in during his training. We've been seeing these marks in practice, and today he was able to lay down a couple of those in competition. This is a going to be a nice momentum boost for him as we move into the postseason."
On the women's side, the Cowgirls picked up two event wins as Adela Hofmannova (2:13.85) won the 800 meters, and Chase Ealey (15.51m/50-10.75) was victorious in the shot put. Katelynn Kehl took third in the discus, with a throw of 40.23m/132-0.
OSU track & field will be back in action next weekend, May 16-18, at the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, in Lubbock, Texas.
