STILLWATER – “Five Questions” is a series that catches up with members of the football team during the off-season. This installment features punter Kip Smith. His comments:
Punter Kip Smith
On his favorite memory so far at OSU
“It's a toss-up between the Texas and Mississippi State games from last year. In the Mississippi State game, it was my first game, so there were all kinds of nerves. We ended up winning, so that was pretty cool, and then going down to Texas and watching our team play so well was really fun. That one was probably up there too.”
On the person who has had the greatest impact on his football career
“That would probably be my kicking coach. It wasn't that I learned everything about kicking from him, but kind of more like life lessons. My parents were also pretty important, as well.”
On his summer plans
“I've got a little side job, just to make a little money. Mostly, I'll be working out here at OSU and kicking a lot. When the season comes, it'll hopefully just be second nature to me. I'm also going to a couple of kicking camps.”
On what he misses most about Colorado
“Just waking up, looking outside and seeing the mountains. It's a view I could never get tired of looking at.”
On his offseason goals leading up to next season
“I'm really focused on punting. Last year was my first year with punting, really, even though I had a pretty strong leg. It wasn't that I didn't necessarily know exactly where the ball was going, but I was kind of inconsistent with punting the ball last year, so I'm going to be busy working on that and working on the fundamentals of punting. I'm getting a real hang of it, especially with the drop and directional stuff behind it, so I'm feeling much more comfortable with it now.”
