Cowgirls Drop Battle to Sooners, 2-0

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma State softball team dropped a 2-0 battle to No. 15/22 Oklahoma in the first game of the 2014 Bedlam Series here Wednesday night at Marita Hynes Stadium.
For the fourth-straight game, the pitchers ruled the field and the game remained scoreless until Oklahoma (25-8, 4-0 Big 12) struck in the bottom of the fourth inning when a base hit by Erin Miller scored Kady Self from second base to put OU up 1-0. The Sooners then doubled their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth on a home run by Shelby Pendley.
The Cowgirls' biggest threat came in the top of the seventh inning when OSU loaded the bases with two outs, but could not produce a run.
Senior Simone Freeman started in the circle for OSU and pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three.
Her counterpart, Kelsey Stevens, went seven innings, allowing no runs on six hits and striking out eight.
At the plate, the Cowgirls recorded six hits, including two singles by Tarah Ettinger who ended the night 2-for-3. Shelby Davis, Danielle Riddle, Simone Freeman and Shianne Hughes all had a base hit for OSU.
The Cowgirls (19-15, 0-4) return to Stllwater this weekend when they host Iowa State for a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 pm.
