Scott, Foster Advance to ASICS U.S. Open Freestyle Finals

LAS VEGAS – Two former Oklahoma State wrestlers, Coleman Scott and Clayton Foster, will compete in the finals of the ASICS U.S. Open at 61 kilos and 86 kilos, respectively, on Saturday at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Scott earned his way to the 61-kilogram finals only giving up three points on the day, all of which came in his semifinal bout where he defeated BJ Futrell, 4-3. Scott sailed to the semifinals shutting out his first three opponents with wins by technical superiority. The Olympic bronze medalist will face No. 1 seed Jimmy Kennedy in Saturday's finals.
Foster is slated to face Keith Gavin for the 86 kg title after an exciting semifinal match where he was awarded two points in the final second of the bout to defeat Ed Ruth, 12-12, on criteria. Prior to the semis, Foster notched three technical falls and a pin, allowing his opponents only two points.
Jordan Oliver and Tyler Caldwell also made appearances in the semifinals.
Oliver started the day with a technical fall and a pin in a loaded 65-kilo bracket before defeating former collegiate rival Logan Stieber in the quarterfinals, 5-3. In the semis, Oliver took on Kellen Russell. The two scrapped to the end, but it was Russell who came out on top, 4-2.
Caldwell, wrestling at 74 kilograms, snatched two wins by technical falls before facing David Taylor in the semis. Caldwell fell to Taylor, 4-0, giving up only one takedown. He will continue to compete for third place on Saturday.
Others who will represent Oklahoma State in the second day of the men's freestyle tournament are volunteer coach Frank Perrelli (57 kg), current Cowboy Austin Schafer (97 kg) and former Cowboy Jack Jensen (97 kg).
In the FILA Junior freestyle brackets, current Pokes Eli Hale (55 kg) and Jordan Rogers (84 kg) will compete in the semifinals of their respective weight classes, while Chris Koo (74 kg) will wrestle on the backside of his bracket.
