LAS VEGAS - Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play on Friday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters with a 293 to stand alone in second place at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
The Cowboys' 5-over total put them four shots off the pace of UNLV at the par-72, 7,374-yard layout.
OSU's Wyndham Clark was one of just five players to break par on the day, coming in tied for first place with UNLV's Carl Jonson after firing a 2-under 70. The redshirt freshman put together a bogey-free outward nine that featured a birdie at the fifth to turn at 1-under 35. His inward nine saw birdies at the 13th and 14th offset by bogeys at the 15th and 16th. However, he moved back to 2-under for the day with a birdie at the 18th.
Sophomore Jordan Niebrugge joined Clark in the top 10, posting a 72 to finish tied for sixth place.
Freshman Zachary Olsen's 75 tied him for 22nd place, while senior Talor Gooch came in a stroke back with a 76 to finish tied for 26th place.
Senior Ian Davis' 78 tied him for 40th place, while classmate Kevin Dougherty also carded a 78 competing as an individual.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. (PST) and will be grouped with UNLV and Oklahoma.
