NEW ORLEANS, La. -
Oklahoma State's Kirubel Erassa has been named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) National Male Co-Athlete of the Week.
Erassa put together a historical weekend at the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships, becoming the first OSU athlete to win three individual indoor conference titles at the same meet.
Erassa won the 5,000 meters, the mile and set a meet record while winning the 3,000 meters, which sealed OSU's first indoor team conference title in school history.
He becomes the first OSU athlete to win this award, indoors or outdoors.
“This is such an amazing honor,” Erassa said. “It was so great to do what I did to help OSU win its first ever Big 12 Indoor title. It's all about the team. I love this team so much. More than anything. To be named national athlete of the week means more than a lot to me. I'm really honored and I want to thank everyone for their support.”
Erassa shares the award with Texas A&M's Deon Lendore, who anchored a collegiate record-breaking 4 x 400 meter relay and won the 400 meter title at the SEC Championships.
Erassa and the Cowboys will be back in action March 14-15, at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, in Albuquerque, N.M.
