Cowboy Duo Named To Hogan Watch List

FORT WORTH, Texas - Oklahoma State's Ian Davis and Jordan Niebrugge were among the 30 collegiate golfers named to the watch list for the 2014 The Ben Hogan Award it was announced today by Colonial Country Club, The Friends of Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The award is presented annually to the top men's Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the past 12-month period. The Ben Hogan Award Selection Committee, which votes during each stage of the process, is comprised of leaders in professional, amateur and collegiate golf.
Davis earned honorable mention All-America status last season after posting four top 10s, including a victory at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. The Edmond, Okla., native finished the year with a fifth-place showing at the Big 12 Championship as well as a top 10 at the NCAA Championship where he tied for eighth place. This past summer, Davis won the Cotton States Invitational and advanced to match play at the U.S. Amateur Championship. The senior posted four consecutive fourth-place showings this past fall.
Niebrugge also earned honorable mention All-America honors during his freshman campaign before putting together a remarkable run on the summer amateur circuit. The Mequon, Wis., native followed a victory at the Wisconsin State Match Play Championship by becoming the first Cowboy to win the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. He added victories at the Wisconsin State Amateur and the Western Amateur Championship en route to securing a berth on the U.S. Walker Cup squad.
A list of 10 semifinalists, which could include individuals not on the current list, will be unveiled on Wednesday, April 16. On Wednesday, May 7, that group will be pared down to three finalists. The winner will be crowned at a black-tie banquet at Colonial Country Club on Sunday, May 18, prior to the start of the PGA TOUR's Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.
The award, which was first issued in 1990 and included academic achievement in its original list of standards, revised its criteria for the 2001-02 collegiate season to its current standard of honoring the outstanding amateur collegiate golfer.
