STILLWATER -
The Oklahoma State women's track and field team jumped into the nation's top 25, debuting at No. 24, in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, which was released today.
This is the second time the Cowgirls have been ranked in the top 25 since the inception of the USTFCCCA poll, the other being week five of 2013 when OSU rose to No. 22.
Individually, the Cowgirls have four athletes ranked in the NCAA top 50 in their respective events after a strong showing at last weekend's Razorback Invitational. Savannah Camacho (2:05.41) and Kaela Edwards (2:05.59) lead the way, holding the No. 3 and No. 6 spots, respectively, in the nation, after their near school-record 800 meter run in Fayetteville.
Monika Juodeskaite (4:46.39) has the NCAA's No. 37 time in the mile, and Viktoriia Sadokhina (12.45m/40-10.25) is No. 42 in the nation in the triple jump.
On the men's side, OSU slid one spot to No. 11, making it seven-straight polls in which the Cowboys have been ranked in the top 11, the longest such stretch in school history. OSU is the highest-ranked team in the Big 12.
Individually, John Teeters (6.71) moved up to No. 23 in the NCAA in the 60 meters. The trio who went 1-2-3 in the 3,000 meters in Fayetteville, Kirubel Erassa (7:54.05), Shane Moskowitz (7:57.79) and Chad Noelle (7:59.64), have the No. 5, No. 10 and No. 13 3,000 meter times in the nation.
Nick Miller's record-setting weight throw of 21.94m/71-11.75 from the KSU Wildcat Invite ranks sixth in the nation, and the distance medley relay's time of 9:39.00 holds the No. 9 spot in the NCAA.
“It's exciting for our program to have both teams ranked,” OSU coach Dave Smith said. “Especially the women. They had a great weekend in Fayetteville, and it's awesome that they are being recognized for it. We need to keep this momentum going.”
OSU track and field will travel to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend, for the Bob Sevigne Husker Invitational, which will take place on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8.
