STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State wrestling senior Chris Perry has been named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for competition from Feb. 10-16. Perry is the only student-athlete to win it twice this season. It's also the second of his career.
Perry went 2-0 on the weekend with the Cowboys traveling to Clarion and No. 2 Penn State. At Clarion, Perry took on Ryan Darch. The senior controlled the match heading into the second period where he pinned Darch in 4:05. His pin was one of three on the day. The Cowboys went on to defeat the Eagles, 45-0.
On Sunday, the Cowboys headed to State College, Pa., where they faced second-ranked and defending national champion Penn State. Perry's bout was one of two top-five matchups of the day. He took on No. 5 and 2013 NCAA finalist Matt Brown. The bout was tied, 2-2, at the end of regulation. The 174 pounders went into two sudden victory periods and two tiebreakers. Perry rode out Brown in the second tiebreaker, not giving up the escape. In the next part of the tiebreaker, Perry grabbed a quick escape and the win, giving him a 3-0 lead in the series against Brown.
Perry is now 22-1 on the season with 13 bonus-point wins.
