December 07, 2014 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER - A ninth straight bowl trip, which Oklahoma State clinched with Saturday's upset at Oklahoma, became a reality on Sunday with the official announcement that the Cowboys will face the University of Washington in the TicketCity Cactus Bowl.
The game is set for Jan. 2 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz., with a 9:15 p.m. (central) kick. The game will be televised by ESPN.
"We are extremely happy to be going to the TicketCity Cactus Bowl," said OSU head coach Mike Gundy. "We should have awesome weather and it's a great bowl site. This will be a tremendous trip for our team and I'm really happy for our seniors. A January bowl allows us another 12 practices and still gives us a chance to be home with our families for Christmas."
Oklahoma State will playing in the Phoenix metro area for the third time since 2007. The Cowboys knocked of Indiana, 49-33, in the 2007 Insight Bowl, the forerunner of the TicketCity Cactus Bowl. OSU returned to Arizona for a Jan. 2, 2012, appearance in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. OSU was a 41-38 overtime winner against No. 4 Stanford in that classic.
OSU and Washington have played just twice with each squad winning on the road. Washington was a 24-18 winner in a 1980 meeting in Stillwater. The Cowboys returned the favor with a 31-17 win in Seattle in 1985.
The Cowboys have won four of their last five games against the Pac-12 Conference. Three of OSU's last six bowl opponents have been from the Pac-12.
