Inside the Series: Bedlam Wrestling
December 04, 2014 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – The only way to describe Oklahoma State wrestling's history with in-state rival Oklahoma is “dominating.”
From the Cowboys' 50-0 drubbing of the Sooners in their first meeting in 1927 to their 29-9 victory in their last meeting, OSU has built an astonishing 106 dual win advantage over OU and leads the all-time series with a record of 133-27-10.
In Stillwater, where Sunday's Bedlam match is scheduled for 2 p.m., Oklahoma State holds a 73-12-2 all-time advantage; in Norman, the Pokes lead 51-15-8; and when they have met at neutral locations, OSU is up 3-0. No matter how it's sliced, the Cowboys have owned the series.
Oklahoma State has won 35 of the last 40 meetings, including a 27-match unbeaten streak from 1996 through 2007. With a one-point setback last season, OSU has only lost once to the Sooners in the 11 matches wrestled since 2008.
As further evidence to the series superiority, every coach in OSU's wrestling history has had a winning record against the Sooners, with coach John Smith building the gap with a 42-6-3 record.
Coach Smith and the Cowboys aim to extend the advantage to 107 wins Sunday at 2 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena, hosting the 171st Bedlam meeting in their first home dual of the season.
Single dual and season tickets are still available. For tickets, contact the Oklahoma State Athletics Sales & Customer Service office at 877-ALL-4-OSU (877-255-4678) or online at www.okstate.com/tickets.
