STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State football team has some time off to celebrate Christmas before the Cowboys head to Arizona for their matchup with Washington in the TicketCity Cactus Bowl on Jan. 2. Okstate.com caught up with a few players to ask about their plans for the holidays.
LB Ryan Simmons
On his holiday plans:
"Practice, and then go home to see my family. I'll be doing a lot of chilling, eating, hanging out and taking time off with my family. I can't wait."
On family traditions:
"We used to open a gift on the 24th, but we kind of stopped that. We usually just wake up as a family and hang out."
On what he likes to eat during the holidays:
"Anything my mom makes is going to be good. It's my time off, and I don't really have to worry about my diet, so I just indulge in whatever she cooks for me. She's a very good cook.
On his mom's best dish:
"Sweet potato fluff. It has a crusty top, but she blends it in so well with the sweet potatoes. It's amazing."
On where he will spend his break:
"I'm going to go home to Houston, and I'll just travel straight to the bowl game from there. I'll definitely get to spend some time with my family for a little while before we have to leave."
On family traditions over the holidays:
"Nothing too specific. We just put up the Christmas tree, make a big dinner and hang out as a family."
On if he is asking for any special gifts this year:
"I'm just glad to be with my family."
On how he plans on spending his break:
"I'm going home and spending the whole break with my family. My aunts and uncles are coming in town, so I'll get to see them too."
On if he has any Christmas traditions:
"Not really. We usually just go over to my aunt's house and play Dirty Santa with the whole family."
On his favorite meal during the holidays:
"Chicken fried steak. My mom makes it, and it's really good."
On what he's thankful for this year:
"I'm happy that I get to go home and see my family, and I'm happy that we got into a bowl game."
On his holiday plans:
"I'm heading home for the first time in about six or seven months, so I'm pretty excited about that."
On family traditions over the holidays:
"We usually go over to my grandma's house and have a big meal. We really just enjoy each other's company. That's the most important thing."
On his favorite Christmas dish:
"Anything my grandma cooks, I'll be eating, guaranteed. It doesn't matter what is it."
On if he is asking for anything specific this year:
"I don't really ask for a whole lot, I'm just happy that our family will be able to be together for that amount of time. That's just fine with me."
On how he plans to spend his break:
"I'll hopefully be seeing my family, spending time with them and relaxing over the break. Most of my family lives in Stamford, so I've got some family from Abilene and Midland who will come in and enjoy Christmas with us."
On Christmas traditions in the Washington family:
"We don't have anything too specific. We just get together and barbeque if the weather is nice."
On his favorite Christmas barbeque dish:
"Ribeye steak."
On what he's asking for this year:
"The only thing I'm asking for is another great year. I'm just happy to be able to spend the holidays with my family."
