December 22, 2014 | Cowboy Baseball
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Oklahoma State has been tabbed No. 5 in the Collegiate Baseball Fabulous 40 NCAA Division I Preseason Poll, it was announced by the publication today.
Coming off a 48-18 season in which OSU won a Big 12 Conference championship and advanced to the third NCAA Super Regional in program history, expectations are again high for head coach Josh Holliday's ball club. The Cowboys return five position players who made at least 29 starts a year ago, as well as returning 12 members of its pitching staff.
Highlighting OSU's list of returners are three 2014 All-Big 12 First Team performers in catcher/outfielder Gage Green, shortstop Donnie Walton and pitcher Jon Perrin, while second baseman Tim Arakawa was a second-team all-conference pick.
Defending national champion Vanderbilt earned Collegiate Baseball's No. 1 preseason ranking and was followed by TCU, Virginia, LSU and the Cowboys. Along with OSU and TCU, Big 12 teams Texas (#7) and Texas Tech (#9) are in the top 10.
The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll was established in 1959 and is the oldest college baseball poll.
OSU opens the 2015 season at Arizona State.
