Oklahoma State Wrestling Holds Ranking Matches
November 08, 2014 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER - Oklahoma State's wrestling squad spent Saturday afternoon in the wrestling room of Gallagher-Iba Arena with 37 wrestlers competing in more than 40 ranking matches.
"I think every year when you have ranking matches, you see good, bad and ugly. We had a little bit of it all," coach John Smith said. "I do believe that we have established the team that is going to step out next weekend, and I'm sure we're going to need to wrestle better that what we did today. I'm looking forward to this start. I'm excited about it, and I'm ready to start the process."
The key match at 125 pounds was a 10-4 decision from redshirt junior Austin Miller over 2013 Big 12 champion Eddie Klimara.
At 133 pounds, true freshman Gary Wayne Harding picked up two wins, including a 10-4 decision over Brian Crutchmer and a fall in 1:38 over redshirt freshman Dean Heil.
Crutchmer grabbed a win at the weight, beating Heil, 6-4.
Davey Dolan edged newcomer Joe Schumacher, 3-2, but was later bested by freshman Mike Magaldo, 3-1, at 141 pounds.
Retuning All-American and 2014 NCAA finalist Josh Kindig looked strong against Michael Martin, tallying a 14-6 major decision.
There were several notable matches at 157 pounds with Anthony Collica racking up wins over Keilan Torres, Ryan Blees and Chris Koo.
Torres and Koo went head-to-head twice with Torres coming out on top in both matches.
Koo earned a win at 157 pounds, beating out freshman Chance Marsteller, 13-7.
Blees also snatched a win over Marsteller, 5-1.
Freshman Chandler Rogers picked up two first-period falls at 165 pounds over Colton Thomas and Sam Mehan.
