Cowboys Named to Academic All-Big 12 Football Team

IRVING, Texas – The 2014 Academic All-Big 12 Football Team was announced today, with 14 Oklahoma State student-athletes named to the squad.
Senior Ryan Lester highlighted the list of Cowboy honorees, as the walk-on senior from Muskogee was one of four student athletes in the Big 12 who was nominated with a 4.00 grade point average.
Lester was one six Cowboys who received first team recognition. He was joined by Trace Clark, Ben Grogan, Christian Schroeder, Jeremy Seaton and Kaleb Smith.
Additionally, eight Cowboys were named to the second team, including Derek Branson, Rennie Childs, Zachary Crabtree, Cameron Gravelle, Victor Irokansi, Elliott Jeffcoat, Teddy Johnson and Jerel Morrow.
Johnson is now a four-time member of the All-Big 12 Academic Team, as he also received first team honors in 2012 and second team honors in 2013 and 2011. It is Seaton's third time on the team with him receiving second team honors each of the past two seasons and Clark's second honor as he was a second team member last season.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
