The Sunday Wrap - TCU
October 19, 2014 | Cowboy Football
TCU's offense hit Oklahoma State with a flurry of long scoring plays early to create all the separation it needed in its 42-9 win over the Cowboys in Amon G. Carter Stadium.
The Horned Frogs' three first-quarter touchdown drives spanned 30 seconds, 12 seconds and 34 seconds, respectively. Still, the Cowboys hung around behind three field goals from Ben Grogan to bring the score to 21-9 late in the second quarter. TCU responded when running back B.J. Catalon rushed for a 35-yard touchdown on a fourth-and-one play with 1:53 left in the half to give the Frogs a 28-9 lead.
TCU dominated time of possession in the second half (22:48 to 7:12) and limited OSU to 51 yards of total offense after halftime to seal its win.
Post-game comments from Mike Gundy
Opening statement:
"It wasn't a very good day for us, we didn't make enough plays, coaches coached better than us, players played better. We just got our butts kicked, there's not really anything else I can say. Offensively we couldn't make plays, we ran the ball a little bit better today but we didn't protect. We never could get out of a jam. We played a better football team, they're definitely a better football team no question."
On TCU's performance:
"Without watching the tape they certainty made plays against younger players in the game. They also had a good scheme, that's all a part of the game. They tried to find a mismatch and attack that particular player. There were times that we were in position, we were close but we just never made the play."
On the lopsided loss:
"A couple years ago we were ahead of Baylor like 45 to nothing at half, and they were a good team and I often wondered if that would ever happen to us and they sure quickly answered my question. I think sometimes the other team is better this year. They're better than we are and we just played average and they made big plays and when you're in a game like this you have to make a few big plays to overcome or score in special teams.
On the rest of the season
"I have a good feel for who we are as a football team and the direction we're going so I have to be patient with players. If there is a number of young players out there or inexperienced, it's not going to do any good for me to chew on those guys and beat them down. We need to continue to build them up, there's certain areas that we need to improve in, just like in the coaching area. We have to work hard and continue to put them in positions for success. I told the team, I can't remember the last time we had a game like this so right now will be a true test of character for us."

Receiver David Glidden hauled in five catches for 59 yards to lead Oklahoma State in both categories against TCU. Three of Glidden's five catches resulted in Cowboy first downs.
Defense

In his last two games, Ogbah has 7.5 tackles for loss.
Special Teams
P Kip Smith | 6-1 | 235 | Senior | Broomfield, CO/Legacy/UCLA
Kip Smith was effective both as a kickoff man and as a punter against TCU. Smith kicked off four times and his four kickoffs yielded an average starting position of the TCU 16-yard line. None of Smith's kickoffs led to a return of greater than 20 yards, which is made more impressive by the fact that TCU entered the game ranked 16th nationally by averaging 25.2 yards per kickoff return. Smith also punted nine times in the contest for an average of 44.3 yards per punt and a net of 40.7 yards per punt. Smith's nine punts yielded a total of only 13 return yards from a TCU squad that entered the game averaging 10.5 yards per punt return.
