Cowboys In Ninth At U.S. Collegiate

The Cowboys' score knotted them with Washington at the par-72, 7,017-yard layout. OSU, the event's defending champion, will begin tomorrow's second round two shots behind Wake Forest. Virginia surged to a six-shot lead with a 16-under 272.
Virginia also produced two of the top three individuals with Denny McCarthy firing a 9-under 63 to lead by three shots over a pair of players, including teammate Derek Bard.
Freshman Kristoffer Ventura was impressive in his Cowboy debut, posting a 68 to stand in a tie for sixth place. Ventura birdied two of his first four holes and turned at 2-under 34 after a birdie at the ninth. After a birdie at the 11th, he sandwiched a birdie at the 15th with bogeys at Nos. 14 and 16 before closing with a pair of birdies to finish for an inward nine of 2-under 34.
Redshirt freshman Brendon Jelley finished the day tied for 24th with a 72, while sophomore Zachary Olsen carded a 74 to stand in a tie for 46th place.
Sophomore Wyndham Clark posted a 76 to come in tied for 58th place.
Junior Jordan Niebrugge's 77 tied him for 67th place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round at 9:00 a.m. (EST) and will be grouped with UCLA and Wake Forest.
