STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State football team was voted as the No. 17 team in the country in the final USA Today Coaches Poll and Associated Press Poll released Tuesday, marking the fourth time in the past six years the Cowboys have finished the season in the top 20 of those polls.
The 2013 Cowboys, who ended the season 10-3 overall and 7-2 in Big 12 play, tied for second in the Big 12 standings and received a bid to play in the 78th AT&T Cotton Bowl, falling to SEC runner-up Missouri.
It marked the third time in the past four years the Cowboys have won at least 10 games. Prior to coach Mike Gundy taking the helm, OSU had three 10-win seasons in 102 seasons of football - 1984, 1987 and 1988. Gundy quarterbacked the 1987 and 1988 squads.
The Cowboys reached as high as No. 6 in the rankings and the BCS Standings entering the final regular season game of 2013. OSU has reached the top 10 in the BCS Standings four of the past six seasons and the top 15 in five of the past six seasons.
Three Big 12 Conference teams are ranked in both of the final polls, with Oklahoma and Baylor joining Oklahoma State at No. 6 and No. 13, respectively.
Oklahoma State returns to AT&T Stadium, the location of the AT&T Cotton Bowl, Aug. 30 for the 2014 season-opener against defending national champion Florida State in the 2014 Cowboys Classic.
