Cowboys Finish Third At Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team wrapped up play at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday with a 7-over 287 to finish in third place at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The Cowboys tallied a 54-hole total of 869, 29-over par, at the par-70, 7,205-yard layout to come in two strokes behind runner-up Texas' 867 total. Alabama cruised to victory after closing with a 291 for an 849 score.
Alabama's Robby Shelton and Stanford's Cameron Wilson shared medalist honors after finishing at even-par 210.
OSU's senior trio of Ian Davis, Talor Gooch and Kevin Dougherty finished tied for 12th place at 218.
Davis closed with the squad's low round of the event, a 69, while Gooch finished with a 74 and Dougherty posted a 73 during his third round.
Davis went out in 1-over 36 after posting bogeys at Nos. 3 and 7 to go against a birdie at the eighth. After a bogey at the 11th pushed him back to 2-over for the day, Davis reeled off birdies at the 12th, 14th and 16th to move under par. He countered a bogey at the 17th with a birdie at the 18th to finish in red figures for the round.
Sophomore Wyndham Clark posted a 71 during his third round to finish at 219 and tied for 21st, while junior Tanner Kesterson's 75 gave him a 227 and tied him for 53rd place.
The Cowboys will be back in action on Sept. 29 at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
