STILLWATER - Dressed in full pads, the Oklahoma State football team practiced for approximately two-and-a-half hours Thursday morning in the Sherman Smith Training Facility. After practice, safeties coach Tim Duffie provided some insight:
On Thursday's Practice:
"Guys came out and worked hard again today. We want to get more turnovers in the back end and compete for more balls. They pushed through a very tough practice this morning."
On Lyndell Johnson's development:
"He's done a good job. The thing about Lyndell is his versatility. We're doing a lot of different things with him and he's picking it up mentally, which is impressive to me."
On what makes the Oklahoma State offense as good as it is:
"Consistency. They're good for one reason - they're the same every day, they bring it every day. You can't think about what you did yesterday, you'd better be ready to play and compete with them every single day they come out to practice."
On what makes the Oklahoma State defense effective:
"The experience that they have with the system, even though we've tweaked some things to be a little more competitive on every play. These guys understand and know the terminology and the scheme of the defense. We're a more athletic football team than most people think."
On if any of the first-year safeties have positioned themselves to be able to play this year:
"I'm impressed with all three of the safeties that have come in (Jordan Sterns, Deric Robertson and Tre Flowers). As a staff, we just try to get them as many reps as we can. We still haven't determined who can possibly play as a freshman, but I like all three of the guys. It's too early to tell."
On what makes Daytawion Lowe effective:
"Intelligence. I think he's tough and very, very competitive. The biggest plus that I like about him is how smart he is and how much of a team player he is."
