KAZAN, Russia -
Oklahoma State's Natalja Piliusina finished eighth in the 800 meter final at the 2013 World University Games, in Kazan, Russia, on Tuesday.
After running a school-record 2:01.59 to qualify for the final on Monday, Piliusina ran a 2:04.62 to take eighth place.
Piliusina was able to crack the final eight despite having only the seventh-best personal record in her semifinal heat entering the competition.
"I was very happy with my personal best in the semifinal," Piliusina said. "Once again I made some tactical mistakes in the race, but at this point, that shouldn't surprise anyone. Obviously I'm not happy with my result in the final. I didn't feel good all day. But, I was also tired after Monday's race."
This result was another great performance Piliusina can add to what has been a stellar 2013 outdoor campaign, in which she captured the NCAA Championship in the 1,500 meters, and won her sixth Big 12 800 meter title.
