FARGO, N.D. – Oklahoma State wrestling newcomer Anthony Collica earned his second freestyle national title on Saturday in Fargo, N.D., competing at 145 pounds.
“It was a fun tournament,” Collica said. “I had a big bracket and just had to take it one match at a time. I came out on top, winning all 10 matches.”
The Solon, Ohio, native, who won his first Fargo title in 2012, blew through his bracket, collecting eight technical falls and two pins.
He controlled his first opponent, picking up a 35-second pin over Dalton Clark before grabbing eight consecutive tech falls.
He ended the tournament the way he started it, pinning Blayne Briceno from California in 2:21 to become the 145-pound champion.
Also new to the Cowboy Wrestling program, Oklahoman Eli Hale made an impressive showing at 120 pounds, finishing sixth in a bracket of 102 competitors.
A product of Miami, Okla., Hale tallied four tech falls and a pin in addition to his pair of decisions.
Other Cowboy freshmen making appearances at the tourney were Chris Koo of New York and Keilan Torres of Altus, Okla.
Koo wrestled at 160 pounds, where he went 3-2 in the tournament, with each of his wins resulting in technical falls, and Torres represented the Pokes at 152 pounds, going 2-2 in the tourney.
