IRVING - For the first time in the history of the Big 12 Conference, the Oklahoma State Cowboys are the preseason favorites to win the league's football championship.
OSU tops the preseason media poll announced today by the conference office. The Cowboys garnered a league-high 15 first-place votes and earned 365 points to outdistance Oklahoma's 355 points.
In 2011, Oklahoma State was picked for third in the preseason, but went on to earn its first league title. In 2010, Oklahoma State was picked for fifth in the six-team Big 12 South, but the Cowboys shared the division title. OSU's previous best in the preseason voting came in 1998 when the Cowboys were tabbed for second in the Big 12 South.
Six schools picked up first-place votes in the 2013 preseason balloting.
