Eight Cowboys Earn Academic All-Big 12 Accolades

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State had eight players named to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 Conference Baseball Team, including a league-high seven first-team performers, it was announced by the conference office today.
OSU's eight Academic All-Big 12 honorees marks the highest total for the program since it had 10 in 2009, and the seven first teamers are its most since 2007 when the Cowboys also had seven.
Each of the Cowboys named to the '13 Academic All-Big 12 Team earned the honor for the first time in their careers. Named to the first team for OSU were seniors Victor Romero and Trey Whaley, juniors Aaron Cornell and Mark Robinette and sophomores Gage Green, Jason Hursh and Jon Perrin. Senior Robbie Rea was named to the second team.
A total of 57 student-athletes earned Academic All-Big 12 recognition in 2013, including 39 on the first team. Along with OSU, TCU also had seven first-team performers. Academic All-Big 12 First Team members consist of student-athletes who have maintained a 3.20 or better grade point average, while the second team selections have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 Team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher (either cumulative or the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
