STILLWATER -
Oklahoma State sophomore Nick Miller was named the Big 12 Track and Field Athlete of the Week following his performance at the John McDonnell Invitational, it was announced today.
On April 13, Miller won the hammer throw competition at the John McDonnell Invite, launching the hammer 69.29m/227-04, which won the event by nearly six meters. He also threw two other distances that would have won the event. He is now ranked No. 2 in the NCAA in the hammer throw.
Miller, who earned first-team All-American honors in the weight throw during the indoor season, continues to change the landscape on the field side of OSU track and field. He is the first field athlete in OSU history, indoor or outdoor, to win this award.
“This is obviously a great accomplishment for both Nick and our program as a whole,” OSU throws coach John Baumann said. “It shows OSU is really building a program in track and field. Just an overall great accomplishment.”
Miller will be competing with the portion of the OSU track and field teams who will be in Walnut, Calif., this weekend, April 18-20, for the Mt. SAC Relays.
