Wheeland Named To Pitcher Of Year Watch List

LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State junior Vince Wheeland is one of 41 players on the College Baseball Hall of Fame's 2013 Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List.
Wheeland, a right-hander from Turlock, Calif., is 6-0 with a save in a team-high 17 appearances this season. His six wins are tied for second among Big 12 Conference pitchers, and he ranks fifth in the league with a 1.85 ERA.
In 48.2 innings of work, Wheeland has recorded 47 strikeouts and ranks fifth in the Big 12 with 8.69 strikeouts per game. He's also in the top 10 in the league in opponent batting average at .218.
Wheeland has appeared in five of OSU's 11 conference games and is 1-0 with a save and a 0.57 ERA. He has struck out 15 and allowed just one earned run in 15.2 innings against Big 12 competition.
Wheeland is one of three Big 12 pitchers on the Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List, joining Oklahoma's Jonathan Gray and Texas Tech's Trey Masek.
The 2013 College Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher of the Year Award will be presented on June 29. Former OSU pitcher Andrew Heaney was a semifinalist for the award in 2012.
