STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State football team held a full-pads practice Monday on the grass fields adjacent to Gallagher-Iba Arena. After the approximately two-hour session, first-year offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich shared some of his insight:
On Monday's practice:
"Today was, I thought, a great day. We did some good things down in the red zone and seven-on-seven drill. In team, there are always some ups and downs, but our guys finished strong and had fun out there and had good attitudes. That's very important."
On the biggest area of development in the quarterbacks from the beginning of spring practice until now:
"It starts with ball security and it ends with ball security - making sure that we're operating within the framework of the offense, but most importantly, we're taking care of the football. That's been the main point of emphasis - getting the ball out of our hand on time. Going through the progressions and making sure we're making good decisions, but on-time decisions."
On the timing between the quarterbacks and receivers at this point of the year:
"It's real good. You've got to give our defense a lot of credit, because they're challenging us every day, therefore, you've got to play fast. When the defense is pushing you, it brings the best out and that's really important."
On OSU's group of young wide receivers:
"They allow us to roll with a new core, so we're fresh. That's important and college football is all about competition and it brings out the best in everybody. They're pushing guys. They're very fresh and they're very athletic and they're really helping us from a depth perspective, majorly."
On the feedback he's gotten from players on the increased tempo of the offense this spring:
"We don't know much different, so we don't really talk about it. It's just what we do."
