STILLWATER -
Oklahoma State's women's tennis team suffered its sixth loss of the season on Friday afternoon with a 5-2 loss to No. 32 TCU in Stillwater.
The Cowgirls (12-6, 4-3 Big 12) began the match by taking the doubles point with wins on doubles courts one and three. Maria Alvarez and C.C. Sardinha notched the 8-4 win on three. Shortly after, Malika Rose and Kanyapat Narattana knocked off Millie Nichols and Olivia Smith, 8-4, on one to clinch the point.
The Horned Frogs, however, would take control of the match in singles play to eventually clinch the match. Simona Parajova scored the first point for TCU when she defeated C.C. Sardinha, 6-0, 6-3, on three. Karyn Guttormsen was defeated, 6-3, 7-5, by Millie Nichols of TCU on six. Kanyapat Narattana fell, 6-3, 6-4, on five to Monika Sirlova to bring the Horned Frogs' lead to two.
Malika Rose stepped up when the Cowgirls' backs were against the wall, notching a big win over No. 43 Stefanie Tan, 6-4, 6-3, on one.
The match was clinched for TCU when Federica Denti knocked off Cowgirl freshman Maria Alvarez in the four spot, 7-5, 6-2.
After losing her first set to Olivia Smith, Meghan Blevins fought hard in her second set, but came up just short, losing the match on the second court, 6-4, 7-5.
“It was a good match,” Cowgirl tennis coach Chris Young said. “We had a chance in all of the matches, but I give credit to TCU for executing down the stretch. We will regroup and be ready for Baylor on Sunday.”
The Cowgirls return to the DeBois Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon for a showdown with the 35th-ranked Baylor Bears at 1 p.m.
