IRVING, Texas -
Oklahoma State wrestling coach John Smith has been named the Big 12 Coach of the Year, the conference office announced today. The award is Smith's 12th conference coach of the year honor, including his 10th as Big 12 Coach of the Year.
Smith's all-time coaching record improved to 348-48-6 as OSU blew through its 2012-13 dual competition, securing a 20-1 overall record. The Pokes also assembled a perfect 6-0 mark in conference competition, earning their second-consecutive regular season Big 12 title. Although they enjoyed three weeks as the nation's top-ranked team, the Cowboys finished as the No. 2 team in the nation after a second-place finish at the NWCA National Duals.
With Smith leading the way, the Pokes picked up their 45th conference team championship — and 14th under Smith — in record-breaking fashion, crowning eight conference champions and posting 118.5 team points.
