Cowgirls Fall to No. 18 Texas Tech, 6-1

Oklahoma State's women's tennis team was defeated, 6-1, by 18th-ranked Texas Tech on Sunday in Lubbock, Texas.
The Cowgirls (10-5, 2-2 Big 12) gave up the doubles point to Texas Tech with losses on courts one and three. Meghan Blevins and Karyn Guttormsen notched the only doubles victory for Oklahoma State on Sunday, defeating Rashmi Teltumbde and Nikki Sanders on two.
The Red Raiders' strong play continued into singles action. Texas Tech's Elizabeth Ullathorne scored the first point for Texas Tech in singles play when she defeated C.C. Sardinha in the three spot. Shortly after, Samantha Adams knocked off Cowgirl Malika Rose on court one, 6-3, 7-5, to bring the Red Raider lead to three.
The match was clinched for the Red Raiders when Caroline Starck defeated Kanyapat Narattana on five, 1-6, 6-0, 6-3.
After the match was clinched, Blevins scored the Cowgirls' lone point by outmatching Kenna Kilgo in the second spot in straight sets.
Cowgirls Maria Alvarez and Karyn Guttormsen both took their matches to three sets, but each was defeated in their third set. Alvarez was defeated by Nikki Sanders on four, 6-3, 0-6, 6-3. Guttormsen was knocked off by Sandra Dynka in the sixth spot, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 to finish off the match.
“We had another great battle today,” Cowgirl tennis coach Chris Young said. “In a match that lasted over four hours, it came down to a few key points and I give Texas Tech credit for executing during those moments.”
The Cowgirls will head back out on the road next weekend for a matchup with West Virginia on Friday in Morgantown, W. Va., and a clash with Iowa State in Ames, Iowa on Sunday.
