STILLWATER -
Oklahoma State's women's team recorded its tenth win of the season on Wednesday with a 6-1 victory over No. 74 Kansas in Stillwater.
The Cowgirls (10-3, 2-1 Big 12) controlled the match from beginning to end, taking all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches. In doubles, Malika Rose and Kanyapat Narattana continued their dominant play of late, downing Dylan Windom and Maria Jose Cardona of Kansas, 8-2, on court one.
Oklahoma State would continue its dominant play in singles. Karyn Guttormsen scored the first point for the Cowgirls in singles with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Victoria Khanevskaya in the sixth spot. Narattana inflated the Cowgirl lead to 3-0 when she defeated Anastasia Trubica of Kansas in straight sets on five.
Senior Cowgirl C.C. Sardinha clinched the match for the Cowgirls when she grabbed the 6-1, 6-3 win over Paulina Los.
Maria Alvarez notched yet another straight set victory for Oklahoma State on four, winning her match over Dylan Windom 7-5, 6-1. Soon after, however, Malika Rose would be defeated by Maria Jose Cardona on the first court in a tough three set match.
Meghan Blevins finished off the match for Oklahoma State by defeating Belen Luduena in the second spot, 3-6, 6-2, 10-4.
“I thought that we started off the match really well in doubles.” Cowgirl tennis coach Chris Young said. “The energy level was really good coming out to start the match, and I think that set the tone for the rest of the match. The girls did a good job taking care of business today.”
“We have two tough matches coming up,” Young said. “We need to have a good practice tomorrow. I think the girls are playing well. It's just a matter of coming out and competing well. If we do that, we'll be in good shape.”
The Cowgirls will travel to Norman on Friday for a Bedlam matchup with 39th-ranked Oklahoma.
