Cowboys Grab Lead In Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 36-hole total of 559 at the Don Puckette National Invitational Tournament to hold the lead after the first day of action on Saturday at Omni Tucson National Golf Club.
The Cowboys' 17-under score put them a shot clear of TCU at the par-72, 7,094-yard layout. OSU opened with a 12-under 276 during its morning round to lead by one over Arizona and New Mexico before posting a 283 during the afternoon's round to maintain its lead over the Horned Frogs, who carded a 281 during the second round to move into the runner-up slot.
TCU's Julien Brun followed an opening 68 with a 65 to stand atop the individual leaderboard at 133.
OSU's Ian Davis came in three shots off the pace of Brun, following an opening 69 with a 67 to stand at 8-under 136 and alone in second place. The junior posted five birdies against two bogeys during his opening round. Davis' second round included seven birdies, one eagle and four bogeys.
Freshman Jordan Niebrugge opened with the squad's low round of the day, firing a bogey-free 65 with five birdies and an eagle. He followed with a 75 to stand at 140 and tied for fifth place.
Sophomore Patrick Winther bounced back from an opening 73 with a 68 for a 142 total to tie for 14th place.
Junior Talor Gooch signed for rounds of 70 and 75 to finish at 145 and tied for 32nd place. Also among the group at 145 was junior Kevin Dougherty, who carded rounds of 72 and 73.
