Cowboys In Second Place At Big 12 Championship

Hutchinson, Kan. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a two-round total of 577 on Monday at Prairie Dunes Country Club to stand in second place at the Big 12 Championship.
OSU was one of just three teams to finish all 36 holes due to darkness. The remainder of the field will resume the second round at 11 a.m. (CST) tomorrow and the third round is set to begin at 1 p.m.
The Cowboys opened with a 285 during their morning round at the par-70, 6,759-yard layout, putting them two shots clear of TCU for the top spot on the leaderboard. OSU followed with a 12-over 292 to stand at 17-over par for the day. Texas surged to the top spot after using a 1-over 281 to go with its 290 during the first round for a 571 total. TCU came in just a stroke back of OSU at 578.
The Longhorns also produced the tournament's leader after the first day of action in Brandon Stone, who posted rounds of 70 and 67 for a 3-under 137 total.
OSU's Talor Gooch grabbed the No. 2 spot in the individual standings. The junior carded an opening 70 and followed with a 69 to finish as the only other player under par at 1-under 139. Gooch's second round began on the back nine and his lone bogey on the card came at the 12th. He got back to even with a birdie at the 14th before tallying 12 consecutive pars. His birdie at the par-4 ninth moved him under par for the round and gave him one of just four rounds in the 60s on the day.
Joining Gooch in the top 10 was sophomore Patrick Winther and junior Ian Davis. Winther carded rounds of 70 and 74 to finish at 144 and tied for seventh place, while Davis posted a 145 total with score of 71 and 74 to finish tied for 10th.
Junior Kevin Dougherty came in tied for 29th place at 150 with rounds of 74 and 76.
Freshman Jordan Niebrugge carded rounds of 81 and 75 to finish the day tied for 43rd at 156.
