Lavey Named an Academic All-American

TOWSON, Md. – Oklahoma State senior linebacker Caleb Lavey earned second-team honors on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division I football team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced Thursday.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his or her current institution and be nominated by his or her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
Lavey, a Celina, Texas native, already holds a degree in Finance and is pursuing an MBA at Oklahoma State. He has also been honored for his work in the classroom as an Academic All-Big 12 team member this season, as well as the past two.
Also an anchor for the Cowboys on the field, Lavey leads the Cowboys this year in total tackles with 82, solo tackles with 59 and tackles for a loss with 12. He ranks second on the team in interceptions with four and also has 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and a pass breakup.
